Bank statement PDF to Xero import file
Your statement never leaves your computer: the PDF is read by code running in this page, and nothing is uploaded.
Xero imports a CSV bank statement with one signed amount column: money in positive, money out negative. The converter writes Xero's own template header:
*Date, *Amount, Payee, Description, Reference, Cheque Number*Date, *Amount, Payee, Description, Reference, Check Number(the US template)
Only *Date and *Amount are required. The statement line text goes in Description; Payee, Reference and the cheque number stay empty for you to fill in Xero if you want them.
What the file follows
- Dates written DD/MM/YYYY by default (MM/DD/YYYY on request). Xero asks you to confirm the format when a date could be read either way.
- No opening or closing balance columns, no blank rows, no account number.
- No $0.00 lines, which Xero cannot import.
- At most 1,000 transactions per file. Longer exports are split into numbered files.
Rows without a year block the export until you enter the statement year.
