550 5.4.5 Daily user sending limit exceeded
Sample bounce line
550 5.4.5 Daily user sending limit exceeded. For more information on Gmail sending limits, go to Gmail sending limits.
What it means
The sending account has reached Gmail's daily sending limit. Sending resumes after the limit period passes.
Why it happens
- Personal Gmail: sending more than 500 emails in a day, or to more than 500 recipients in a single email (Gmail Help).
- Google Workspace: regular accounts 2,000 messages per day, 1,500 with mail merge, 500 for trial accounts, counted over a rolling 24 hours (Workspace Help).
- More than 500 external recipients in one message on Workspace.
How to fix it
- Stop sending from the account and wait. Google says sending can resume within 1 to 24 hours (Gmail Help) and that users can't send new messages for up to 24 hours (Workspace Help).
- Keep external recipients under 500 per message.
- Use mail merge (1,500 limit) instead of sending many individual messages, where you are on Workspace.
- Space out bulk communications across multiple days.
- For larger volumes, use the Workspace sending limits page to check your account's limits.
